From Charging Stop to Weekly Ritual: A Rove Date Story
Who says EV charging can’t be romantic? For one Orange County couple, it turned into a weekly ritual blending quality time, good food, and fast charging for their Nissan Ariyas.
Meet Cliff and Cheryl
Cliff and Cheryl have been together nearly 10 years and married for 6. Like most couples, they’ve experienced life’s ups and downs, and along the way they’ve learned to make time for each other wherever they can.
Unexpectedly, one of those places became Rove.
From Matching Ariyas to a Shared Routine
Cliff and Cheryl didn’t start their EV journeys at the same time, but they did purchase their Nissan Ariyas just one day apart last March.
For Cheryl, the switch made practical sense. She drives for Uber, so fuel savings and reliability mattered. She also admits she’s always been a “Nissan girl” and her Ariya color — Northern Lights — was inspired by a recent trip to Iceland and felt meant to be.
Cliff had prior EV experience and works in the auto industry, so he’d been around electric vehicles for years. When it was time to go fully electric, the Ariya’s range helped make the decision easy.
With both driving long-range Ariyas and logging plenty of miles, charging quickly became part of their weekly rhythm.
Finding Rove
They discovered Rove on a typical Uber day when both finished driving around the same time and needed lunch and a charge.
Cheryl had noticed ReCharge by Gelson’s before and was curious. Cliff had watched the station being built and wanted to stop by. Instead of heading somewhere else for food, they decided to check it out and support the new business.
They plugged in, grabbed lunch, and relaxed in the lounge.
That one visit turned into a habit.
“Most charging stations are just functional stops—plug in, wait, leave. Rove - Santa Ana is something entirely different. It’s a destination, a community hub, a place where we’re known and welcomed.”
Why They Love Their EVs
For Cliff and Cheryl, their Nissan Ariyas are more than transportation — they’re a big part of their lifestyle. They genuinely enjoy how the Ariya drives and how it fits into their daily routines.
One thing they don’t miss? Gas stations. Those stops have been replaced with time spent charging, often together.
How Charging Became Date Time
What started as a convenience gradually became something they look forward to.
They plug in, grab a coffee or snack, and spend 30–45 minutes catching up without distractions. No chores, no rushing — just a built-in pause in their day.
Being greeted by familiar faces and having a comfortable place to relax has helped make the experience feel easy and welcoming. Living nearby makes visits convenient, but it’s the overall experience that keeps them coming back.
What began as a practical stop has grown into a small but meaningful ritual — a moment to connect and spend time together.
“Some of our best conversations have happened in that lounge while our cars powered up outside.”
More Than a Charging Stop
For Cliff and Cheryl, charging isn’t just another errand. It’s become part of their routine and their story.
They enjoy sharing their experience with other EV drivers and encouraging people to find charging spots where they feel comfortable spending time. For them, it’s the little things — a familiar environment, a place to sit and talk, support when they need it — that turn a routine charge into something more personal.
And in their case, something they get to share together.
